In the last decade, we have honoured over 900 outstanding entrepreneurs from over 700 companies. In that time, the qualities and attributes entrepreneurs share have not altered, despite the myriad changes in the environment, technology and the economic climate. While there is no "mould" or stereotype, entrepreneurs are passionate, calculated risk takers who are often wildly successful despite having a multitude of obstacles placed in their path. Fierce determination in the face of opposition is a characteristic that many of our past and present entrepreneurs have in spades. From the shadows of the global fnancial crisis, many have not only withstood the turmoil, but have been agile enough to capitalise on opportunities stemming from the crisis. Our 2010 Entrepreneurs’ Confdence Barometer, which surveyed our Entrepreneur Of The Ye a r alumni, highlighted offshore expansion and innovation as key concerns for this group. This year's Exceptional magazine aims to delve into these issues a little deeper, as well as sharing the stories of the 2010 Entrepreneur Of The Ye a r winners. We investigate how more women are overcoming traditional barriers to entrepreneurial success (and doing it their way), and I'm excited about our new program for 2011 --- Entrepreneurial Winning Women --- that aims to encourage and support female entrepreneurs. We also take a look at social media and its importance in building and protecting your brand; the benefts of encouraging "intrapreneurship" within your organisation; and effective tax strategies for high net worth individuals. As we head into a new decade, we look forward to meeting the next group of outstanding Australian businesspeople who will take the Entrepreneur Of The Ye a r journey with us.
