When he started Tú Projects Pty Ltd (Tú Projects), he was 23 and had just $64 in his bank account. Tú Projects provides interior fit-outs to businesses of all sizes and across several industries. The company’s use of technology makes it one of the most sophisticated fit-out businesses in Australia, with software that allows clients to track the cost and progression at each stage of their project. Robert believes Tú Projects is successful because it “helps build businesses, not just shops”. After working in and around data centres overseas, Greg Boorer saw an opportunity in the Australian market for a modern, highly secure data centre service for government and high-end users. Canberra Data Centres (CDC) is the largest provider of outsourced co- location data centre services to the Australian Government and third-party IT service providers. Its unique modular pod system accommodates customers’ evolving requirements over time without disrupting operations. Greg anticipates increased demand for storage space as the government digitises its service delivery. He plans to build another two data centres in the ACT region and expand into Sydney, Melbourne and overseas. “The harder I work, the luckier I get” “Treat people well and focus on delivering value in everything you do!” “Fill people with purpose and give them a reason why” In 2007, Russell Baskerville successfully listed Empired Limited (Empired) on the ASX, even though it was a small company with a very ambitious plan. As an IT services provider, Empired helps its enterprise clients improve their efficiency, productivity and competitive advantage. The company now has 826 employees across Australia and New Zealand. Empired offers local knowledge supported by strong capability and experience, and has competed against some of the largest IT services companies in the world. It has contracts with the world’s largest mining firms and a range of major state government departments across Australia. In future, Russell plans to develop offices in Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. While working as an air force fighter pilot and test pilot, he saw the need for an independent engineering organisation to test key defence systems and capabilities. In 2000, he and business partner, Peter Nikoloff, started Nova Systems. With more than 300 employees and operations around the world, Nova Systems has grown to be one of Australia’s pre-eminent suppliers of specialist engineering and management services to industry and government. A key goal for Jim in the next five years is to continue international expansion. He plans to increase headcount to more than 800.
